Miss Czech Republic Karolína Kokešová wore a Lioness Warrior costume to promote women’s rights across the world.

Kokešová said on Instagram that she wanted to promote women’s rights with her outfit.

She wrote that the shield she carried had three symbolic elements. While the first face of the shield showed a rampant lion — the national emblem of the Czech Republic — the second face had Afghanistan’s flag colors on it.

Kokešová said the third face of the shield had the Texas flag, alongside the text: “I’m One Voice, but Together we can ROAR.”

“The concept behind this shield is to simply showcase regardless of race, 1st or 3rd world countries, women’s rights issues are all over the world,” she wrote.

LOS ANGELES, December 13, 2021 (Newswire.com) - The 70th annual Miss Universe competition took place in Eilat, Israel, yesterday, where 80 women traveled from all over the world to proudly represent their countries. Karolina Kokešová, the current national titleholder of Miss Universe Czech Republic and the current international titleholder of Miss Global, chose to use her international platform to do more than compete for a crown. While preparing for the competition, she realized she could use her national costume as a medium to share a meaningful message with the world

With women's rights issues in the USA and abroad making headlines, such as the latest abortion law in Texas, and the Taliban dismantling women's rights in Afghanistan, Karolina chose to use her moment on stage as an opportunity to take a stance and increase awareness on these issues. It was important to her to have a national costume to not just represent her country of Czech Republic, but also what she believes in as a citizen of the country that goes beyond country borders.

Partially inspired by Variety's Power of Women event in Los Angeles back in September, where Angelina Jolie spoke about women empowerment, Karolina's national costume design was also inspired by the concept of a warrior. She carried a shield showcasing a dual message: "Protect women's rights worldwide," with the black, red, and green Afghanistan flag as well as the words, "I'm one voice, but together we can roar" with a backdrop of the Texas flag. Both messages symbolized the corresponding women's rights issues at hand.

"It is concerning to me that a state like Texas is moving backwards with women's rights," says Karolina. "Many women are not even aware that they are pregnant before the six-week mark, so this law does not allow them the time needed to make the right decision for their bodies and their lives, especially the fact that the Texas law doesn't even make an exception for rape survivors."

"It also saddens me to hear of women living in fear in Afghanistan as their freedoms are being taken away," she says. "We need to show women around the world that we stand with them."

Karolina's efforts began back in August when she heard about Afghanistan refugees being resettled in the U.S. She worked with the Miss Global Organization in partnering with the International Institute of Los Angeles to donate hundreds of essential items for the refugee families.

Although Karolina did not win the Miss Universe title on Sunday, she was honored to stand up for women and arm her costume shield with an important message for women all over the world.

Karolina Kokesova shares her dreams and memories on the Harpers Bazaar's July 2021 10th Anniversary issue

Karolína Kokešová's path to the Miss Global crown is fraught with difficulties, but she has never let that make her pessimistic.

BZ-COVER_Karolina-Kokesova-1

Karolína Kokešová is a beautiful, ambitious girl. She won the Miss Global 2019/2020 contest held in Mexico. During the pandemic, the queen is still busy. It is known that this August, the final of the Miss Global 2021 contest will take place in Indonesia. Before the contest, the beauty spent time confiding with HBVN about the contest.

Karolína Kokešová .'s journey to Miss Global

Karolína Kokešová was born in 1996 in the city of Brno, Czech Republic. Growing up, the queen had a passion for basketball and running. She also played the piano for nine years straight.

At the age of 19, after completing high school, Kokešová moved to Prague, where she began her modeling career. Four years later, at the age of 23, she was Miss Global 2019.

From Brno, to Prague and then crowned Miss Global (Miss Global) 2019 in Mexico, recalling the journey, Karolína Kokešová said:

“Everything is like yesterday. That day, I carried three large luggage bags, stood in the middle of the Prague airport to say goodbye to my mother… Alone fighting in the international beauty arena, I was worried and insecure. I don't know what to expect anymore."

At that time, Kokešová was a bit skeptical about beauty contests. She used to think that the public only cared about the contestants' looks. “I don't want to disappoint those who always love and support me. With 100% enthusiasm, I am confident in what I show, because that is who I really am.

Miss Global is a different playground. The contest has the motto: empowering women, embracing different cultures and revealing the hidden beauty in each person. In this beauty contest, Kokešová conquered everyone by her intelligence and inner beauty.

Who does not take risks from time to time. But the future is what matters

The year that Karolína Kokešová participated in the contest, Miss Global had a risk in the organization. ?Which led to Karolína Kokešová being crowned in a casual outfit backstage, instead of in a gorgeous evening gown.

However, in recounting her experience at the competition, Karolína Kokešová did not care about bad luck. Who can not take risks in life. But the important thing is what lessons you learn. For her, the things the competition has brought are invaluable and help her learn from her future activities.

“I am grateful for the wonderful experiences I have had. I engrave in my heart the places I have visited and met wonderful people. It's an honor to be the first European to win the Miss Global pageant."

When asked about his fondest memory from participating in the pageant, Kokešová retorted: “The best memory I have from my time participating in Miss Global 2019 is the parade during the cultural festival in Oaxaca, Mexico. The public welcomes us with enthusiasm. And when visiting the children at the hospital in Mexico City. For me, experiences like this make me emotional.”

She also deeply misses the close friends she met at the show. “I have the opportunity to meet friends from all over the world. They are beautiful inside and out. I consider them like my second family.”

“Covid-19 is a challenge for all of us”

From the beginning of 2020 until now, moving between countries has become more difficult and luxurious due to Covid-19. This makes Kokešová not very comfortable, because her passion is traveling, discovering cultures from many lands. But that's not why she hesitated.

The queen immediately embarked on meaningful community projects. Kokešová and the Miss Global team donated laptops to schools in Mexico, the country where she was crowned. She also recorded the music video Built to Last , the theme song of Miss Global. “Since I have no experience in singing or acting, this is a challenge for me. But in the end, I got over it.”

In addition, Miss Global 2019 also challenged with the business category. She currently owns her personal fashion brand By Kokinečka and runs a company that manufactures cosmetic bags.

Karolína Kokešová on the cover of Harper's Bazaar Vietnam

As one of the cover faces of the 10th anniversary special issue of Harper's Bazaar Vietnam, Kokešová was very excited. She initially hoped to be able to take this special photo shoot in Vietnam, but due to the global pandemic, this was not possible. "It's a pity that I couldn't fly to Vietnam to do the photo shoot. But okay! I have completed my mission in Europe.”

If you look at her professional photos, you will not be able to guess that the queen is suffering from minor injuries. The day before flying to Bulgari for the shoot, Kokešová sprained her ankle. Before the flight, she stayed at the hospital all night for an X-ray to check. "Fortunately, it was only a minor injury," Karolína Kokešová breathed.

As Miss Global, Kokešová has always been aware of the weight of the crown. She always does everything she can, to make the world a better place. This young girl always has many happy messages to spread with everyone. Sharing the secret of a meaningful, happy life, Kokešová summarizes it with the following phrases: Listen to your inner self, do whatever makes you feel happy and love yourself!

Reigning Miss Global Angela Bonilla of Ecuador is in the country for the Miss Global Philippines 2017 pageant. She will sit as one of the judges at the coronation night on June 24. Angela is so excited for the task ahead as first-time judge.

She also shared with Showbuzz that her visit to the Philippines is something really looked forward to, and truly an unforgettable experience

“I love the Philippines. It’s my second home. Like in Ecuador, my home country, people here are very warm, very friendly. I have actually made a lot of friends the first time I came here last year for the Miss Global international pageant.”

Besides judging the pageant, Angela is also helping the Miss Global Philippines Organization in its advocacy of promoting tourism.

“I really want to tell the world how beautiful the Philippines is and I can attest to that. Last year, when we went to Bohol as part of our activities in Miss Global, I almost cried when I saw the island. It’s so beautiful. It’s something we don’t have back home. I want the people of the world to know that the Philippines is very beautiful and the people here are very nice.”

Angela is excited to visit Boracay and Palawan next week, her first in both popular Philippine tourist spots.

It did Angela a lot of good winning Miss Global 2016.

“It helped me in my professional work as a model and actress. I did a lot of commercials, and I got offers for acting projects but I can’t accept them yet because I still have to fulfill my duties as Miss Global. I will entertain the offers when I go back to Ecuador,” she related.

While in the Philippines, is she open to opportunities that may come?

“Why not?” the beauty queen replied. “It would be an honor for me to do projects here. I am even willing to learn Tagalog if needed.”

In the meantime, Angela is scheduled to guest in some GMA shows like “Wowowin,” “Sunday Pinasaya,” “Eat Bulaga” and “Unang Hirit” to promote the pageant.

When I shared the news with my friends and family that I was entering the Miss Global 2016 Beauty Pageant, they were all very excited for me. The people that know me best knew that I was in it to win it, and that I would be singularly focused on bringing home the crown; and because of my competitive spirit, they fully expected me to do so. As soon as I decided to enter, nothing mattered more to me than coming home with no less than the crown and the sash – for myself, for my loved ones, and for my country.

During the pageant I had the opportunity to tour the Philippines. With my new friends, I visited exotic locations like Bohol Island, saw landmarks and monuments, and sampled various types of new cuisines. We also visited schools, including a special school for the deaf. Prior to visiting the school, we stopped at a toy store to get as many toys as we could afford for the children. The night before, I had been named second runner-up in the evening gown competition and was awarded 5000 Philippine Pesos – all of which I spent on toys. Upon arriving at the school for the deaf, the children seemed very excited to meet us. They were smiling and attempting to ask us questions in sign language. Fortunately, someone at the school taught me a few signs and I was happy to be able to communicate a few friendly greetings. Although learning some sign language was definitely a bonus for myself, the greater reward was being able to express my love, joy, and positive feelings to the children and to get those sentiments back from them. We were also honored by a special dance that the children had prepared to welcome us. In return, our pageant organizers brought a Christmas tree for the children, under which we placed all of the toys we had bought. When the happy children ran toward us to thank us for the presents, it was the best feeling in the world.

At one of the other schools we visited, I was greeted by the children with heartwarming chants of “USA! USA! USA!”. It was a special moment for me as I met eyes with the children and saw their smiles as I blew them kisses. We even had a few fun and silly moments as we made funny faces back and forth. As I made this connection with the children I realized that this was what my pageant experience was all about. The children were not responding to superficial aspects of my appearance, they were responding to my personality and genuine kindness. This affected me deeply.

Learning from loss… is winning

My desire to win this pageant was initially fueled by the knowledge that the Miss Global organization had the resources to guide and support me in making the world a better place. During the pageant, I felt as if I had the entire nation of the Philippines rooting for me, not to mention my family, friends, and country back home. This put a tremendous amount of pressure on me and made me feel as if anything less than a title was complete failure. Hearing the encouraging cheers of people in the crowd that didn’t even know who I was, and remembering the faces of the children at the school, just added to my intense desire to win.

When the moment came in which I was not placed in the top 20 contestants, I was obviously devastated. The disappointment was just too much for me. Staff members and other contestants encouraged me not to go back out on stage. It is at that point that I made the emotional decision to follow their advice. It seemed justified to me at the time, because many felt that the selection process had been unfair, but it is a decision that I came to regret. I regret it because the right thing to do, no matter the outcome, would have been to show support for the other women and to give a positive example of poise and strength. I know now that we all would have been better served if I had encouraged everyone to gracefully appear on stage and demonstrate to the crowd and to the judges that we were all worthy contestants. This is a lesson in grace and humility that I will never forget, and I know it will serve me well going forward.

There are some contestants who are currently expressing negative views about the Miss Global organization because of the results of the pageant. I think that often in these types of events, it is natural to feel that after you put your heart and soul into your preparation, sacrificed so much, and invested time and money, the results seem unfair. We all need to remember that dozens of wonderful young women entered the contest, but only one can ever come away with the crown. That does not mean that the others were not worthy. What you take away from this type of experience depends on your frame of mind. This organization had many volunteers working to organize the pageant, make sure we were safe, and make sure we had everything we needed to look and feel our best. Many of these people worked long hours and very late into the night. Meanwhile, we got to have the experience of a lifetime, made wonderful friends, and we all grew together as women. This organization and all its volunteers deserve our love, support, and kindness. Now it’s up to each of us to move on individually and do our own part to make the world a better place. None of us need a crown or a sash to do that.

Dreams and goals are dynamic… just like life

When I was given the awesome privilege and responsibility of representing the United States at the global pageant in Manila, I explained in my sponsor letter that the winner of the pageant had a unique opportunity to contribute to the empowerment of women across the globe. To be chosen out of so many American women to represent our country was an honor that I will cherish as long as I live. What I learned from my pageant experience is that I don’t need a crown on my head to inspire the empowerment of women. I don’t need a sash to become a role model. As I continue my journey in life toward my goal of becoming a successful and financially independent entrepreneur, I know that the achievement of that goal will serve as an example for young women and girls everywhere.

Regardless of the outcome, this pageant experience changed my life in a profound way. I was able to see another part of the world and experience another culture, I made new and lasting friendships, I learned valuable life lessons, and I even gained some fans and recognition along the way. I was able to reach many of my goals along the way, like seeing the world, growing as an individual, and having the courage to pursue my dreams. An objective of mine has been to have the courage to change my goals when I realize I want something else and to have the courage to pursue those new dreams. As my goals changed during this pageant, the experience allowed me to grow as a person and enjoy the unforgettable memories that resulted.

When the pageant was over, I did not have the crown and I did not have the sash, but I am writing to tell you that I came away with something much more valuable. I learned lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I learned that a crown is just a piece of metal and a sash is just a piece of cloth. I learned that it was all about the journey and not the destination. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself on stage with a group of women to be judged by others. It takes hard work and dedication to practice and prepare. Along the way, I had the privilege to encounter many wonderful people, including others with similar values to mine, and similar drive, and similar dedication. What I gained in comradeship was more valuable than any title or any crown. Of all the women there, only one can take home the crown, but we can all grow stronger together. Ironically, I wonder if I would have learned these lessons if I did achieve my goal of winning the title. Perhaps in “defeat”, I gained more than I ever could have in victory.

In closing…

I’d like to sincerely thank the organizers, staff, and security personnel at Miss Global. I’d like to thank everyone that supported me from the makeup artists and hairstylists to my family and friends and especially my sponsors.

There are so many things that occurred during this adventure, and so many thoughts in my head that are very difficult to put into writing. I tried to convey the most important aspects of the experience, which are the lessons that I learned about life and myself, the impact of my interaction with the children, and the new friendships that I gained. I still have so much more to say, so if any of you have any questions for me or would just like to know more about my experience, please feel free to contact me directly.

With love,
